Drake just dropped his new single “Nice For What”, which samples Lauryn Hill’s 1998 track “Ex-Factor.”
“Nice For What” was produced by Canadian producer Murda Beatz who worked on Drake’s previous records, 2017’s More Life and 2016’s VIEWS.
Alongside the single, the Canadian rapper also released an accompanying video: an ode to female empowerment starring Rashida Jones, Tiffany Haddish, Tracee Ellis Ross, Olivia Wilde, Misty Copeland, Issa Rae, Jourdan Dunn, Zoe Saldana and more.
The rapper made a cameo at Majid Jordan’s concert in Toronto on Thursday where he announced to the crowd that he would be releasing new music on Friday night.
“The reason I’m here tonight is because I’m back in the city finishing my album,” Drake told the crowd. “I’ve got a new single dropping tomorrow night, too, just in case you got some free time.”
Drake has already had an exciting year with the release of his two-track project Scary Hours and his emotional video for his track “God’s Plan” in February.
The “God’s Plan” visual captured the rapper making an array of kind gestures to both people and organisations, donating almost $1m – the budget for his music video.
Last month Drake also appeared in Migos’ retro music video for “Walk It Talk It.”
There is no release date set for Drake’s forthcoming album.
